How to choose a fan

Foolproof Guide on how to choose the best luxury fan for you

Ceiling Fans and the Designs, number of blades, all the small factors that go a long way to help us have a great experience in the hot summer days or cool winter months, a fan makes a difference to maintain the ambient temperature in any room and save money.

Personal preferences can be the biggest guide point when we have so many technological advances made. It is also a good idea to consult your professional interior architect or contractor for the best options that suit your project and your own taste.

Here are some key points that one should keep in mind while making a choice on the best fan for your project.

1. First, choose a Fan location, Indoor or Outdoor –

The most obvious place to begin this process of selection is based on the personal space and your aesthetics or the ones that best match your taste and the project location if we need an indoor fan, and exactly where will this be located indoors, kitchen, bathroom dressing room, wardrobe etc or will this be for an enclosed porch area or veranda.

Wet locations fans can actually take moisture, rain and get washed down completely. Since they are well-contained blades will not get damaged in the Sun, however, for wet areas make sure that the fan is certified and can be exposed to minimum wetness with no complete direct wetness for the motor area.

Hence enclosed porches, balconies or pergolas are good options, they provide much comfort especially while entertaining in hot humid summer months.

2. Select the Fan size matching to the Ceiling height

Every home has its own requirement and its best to choose keeping in mind the different ceiling height and how blade sizes can impact the quality of air circulation in the room. Each blade has its own span based on the diameter of the circle that the spinning blade movement creates and oftentimes this is also referred to as the Fan blade sweep. Fans have even or odd number blades.

Fans with an even number of blades measure the fans diameter to measure its span, for fans having an odd number of blades measure from the center of the fan outward to the end of the blade tip and then multiply this by two. Some options are listed below that can be used as a reference or consult your Interior Architect for more advice

3. Choose the Right Fan Design to complement the location and Ceiling

One must keep in mind the location and ceiling height, outdoor fans can be termed as damp, as they can handle the weather moisture and other conditions. Generally speaking, the height of the Fan should be 8-9 feet above the floor and 12-18 inches away from the wall. For safety, the blades need to be at a minimum of 7 feet up they can go higher.

4. Fans with Lights or without lights

For Rooms with large windows and lots of natural light sources, one need not opt for fans with Light or perhaps use them as an accent piece in the living room area. Fans with light are a good option with low lighting options and less natural light flow. It is always recommended to go with LED lights as they are long-lasting. durable and consume less wattage. They are dimmable and emit a light output equal to 100 watts.

5. The Tone of light and control

Once again based on personal preference some areas like study and kitchen or any work area’s need cool light as opposed to warm tones. Technology in fan control has allowed us to now select the tone of lighting we want, cool or light. Aerpointfans have MCT innovation that makes it possible to change the setting as per preferences and requirements.

Fans come with remote control, can be fitted with Bluetooth technology, and can also have traditional features like a pull string to start and close the fan movements. The wall control is the most common and used most widely. Nowadays fans also have IoT devices or smartphones outfitted that operate the fan and adjust all features. Speak with our Aerpointfan representative to know about all the different options we can suggest for your new home or renovation project.

5. Mounted or Downrod options –

Once again, every project has its own ceiling requirement, we can assume that projects have a standard ceiling, around 9 feet or they are at 8 feet and more like 10 feet plus. Colonial Style Bungalows still follow the extra high ceiling and the fans are fitted with a Downrod that comes in many variations designs. Some fans come with their own downrod extensions, lengths can be from several inches to several feet.

Keep this important fact in mind, as the downrod gets to the end, the potential for the fan to wobble increases, your personal contractor can solve this as per the down height of the rod and the type of motor and fan that is being suggested. The same rule applies for ceilings that have a slope, or vaulted ceilings, special solutions from Aerpointfans are available for such unique and specific requirements.

7. Choose an Efficient Motor

The main part of the fan other than the blade swipe all comes to the motor, and a good motor can make a difference not just in the air quality but also ambient features like being noiseless, less energy consumption, and working in both clockwise and anticlockwise movements.

Choose one with a DC motor base fan; they consume 70% less energy than the AC motors. Technology permits these fans to run quieter and adjust more as well as long-lasting. The Brushless technology DC motor often referred to as the BLDC motor is a good option, make sure you ask for this while shopping for fans, or speak with your contractor or designer.

8. Choose Fan Speed Control

Aerpointfans rotate, 30,60 90,180 & 360 degrees and ensure airflow throughout the room. Fan Speed can also be adjusted to match to the environmental setting outside. The fans have a special tilt mechanism that also allows the air to flow uniformly, this enhances the actions of the blades.

9. Air Flow Efficiency selection

Aerpointfan in all its variations, with the BLDC technology, makes the fan technology, with clockwise motion, making the breeze cooler in summer and the counterclockwise setting makes the fan recirculate the warm air efficiently by eliminating hot air stratification without creating a direct downward.
